“The Christian heritage along the cultural corridor Russe-Giurgiu”

What’s the goal?

To promote the integrated development of the cross-border area Russe-Giurgiu through the development of cultural/religious tourism, based on sustainable use of the cultural, religious and historical heritage of the region.

How is it going to happen?

  • Restoration of three churches which are cultural monuments;
  • Three integrated tourist products;
  • Elaboration of a Joint Strategy for common preservation and use of the cultural, religious and historical heritage as a base of sustainable development of cultural and religious tourism in the cross-border area Russe-Giurgiu;
  • Establishment of network from stakeholders for development of cultural and religiius tourism in the crossborder region Russe – Giurgiu;
  • Conservation-restoration activities and exhibiting the cultural-historical heritage in 3 churches.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: Increase in the expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attraction, 3 integrated tourism products/services created, 1 common strategy, policies or management plans for valorizing (including raising awareness) the cultural and natural heritage through its restoration and promotion for sustainable economic uses.

Programme results: increase of the number of overnights in the CBC area with 35,000.

Project status

The project implementation period ended on 11.01.2023.

Lead Beneficiary:

LB ("Sveta Petka Church") completed the works for the "Major overhaul and restoration of “Sveta Petka” Church and construction of a new building, a visitor center with a chapel” on 27.06.2022.

A thematic and specialized strategy was developed in the field of cultural and religious tourism. The final version of the joint strategy is available here Strategy-Christ-Heritage-ROBG-302-eng.pdf (christ-ro-bg.eu).

The digitized church literature and documentation are also available to visitors in the Tourist Exhibition Center with church artifacts, built according to the project in the courtyard of the church "Sveta Petka" in the city of Ruse.

Beneficiary 2:

B2 (TAU Vedea Commune) - completed the construction works for the "Saint Pantelimon" Church on 12.01.2023.

Beneficiary 3 :

B3 (“Sveti Georgi” Church) completed the construction works of the "Sveti Georgi" church on 14.10.2020.

Tradition and Dance – Bridge over the Danube

What’s the goal?

Tourism and cultural heritage will be addressed within the project through developing traditions existed in Contesti and Tsarevets (traditional dance) and also identifying new traditions that define the 2 areas.

1.499.556,90 euro, out of which 1.274.623,36 euro ERDF;

  • Elaboration of the Study "Exploring other common traditions ";
  • Organization of workshops for identifying joint tourism products;
  • Organization of dance festivals;
  • Creation of the Centre ”Dance School” Contesti;
  • Creation of the Centre for Culture and Education in Tsarevets;
  • Organization of information and publicity activities;

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs: Increase in expected number of visits to supported sites of cultural and natural heritage and attraction with 1.800;

Programme results: Increase of the number of overnights in the CBC area with 1.800;

Project status

The project implementation period ended on 23.05.2023.

Lead Beneficiary – TAU Contesti Commune:

- The construction works for "Dance School" Center in Conțești are finilized;

- The study "Exploring other common traditions" was developed in 3 languages ​​(Romanian, Bulgarian and English);

- Two festivals "Tradition and dances - bridge over the Danube" were organized, one from 24.03.2023 to 26.03.2023 and the second one from 07.04.2023 to 09.04.2023.

Beneficiary 2 - Tsarevets City Hall, Svishtov Municipality

- B2 completed the renovation works and set up the Center for Culture and Education in Tsarevets, on 01.07.2019;

- On 01.08.2019 and 05.07.2022 two workshops to identify traditional activities were organized, at the Center for Culture and Education in Tsarevets;

- On 01.08.2019 and 06.08.2022 2 tourism product identification workshops were organized at the Center for Culture and Education in Tsarevets;

- Two festivals "Tradition and dances - bridge over the Danube" were organized. The first one took place on the 1st of 08 2019 until 04.08.2019 in Tsarevets, and the second starting 03.08.2022 until 06.08.2022, in Tsaravets.

Danube Safety Net (ROBG-522)

Improvement of the transport safety in the common Bulgarian-Romanian stretch of the

Danube River through development of the emergency response by cross-border cooperation

What’s the goal?

The overall objective of the project is to improve the safety of river Danube navigability for the whole length of the CBC area.

What’s the budget?

5,699,612.87 euro, out of which 4,844,670.93 euro ERDF

Who is doing it?

Lead Beneficiary (LB): Executive Agency "Maritime Administration" (Bulgaria)

Beneficiary 2 (B2): Romanian Naval Authority (Romania)

When is it happening?

Start date: 15.09.2018

End date: 14.10.2022

Duration: 49 months

Where is it happening?

Montana and Ruse in Bulgaria

Constanta, Giurgiu and Teleorman in Romania                                                                   

How is it going to happen?        

  • Development of preliminary study and data collection
  • Development of common technical specifications for transport safety IT tool
  • Establishment of Emergency response centers in Bulgaria and Romania
  • Development of action plan joint based on reciprocity and competencies between EAMA and RNA. The action plan will cover the processes of cooperation and collaboration between the two partnering institutions in the scope of their competencies. The action plan will improve the time for reaction and will increase the level of coordination between partners in risk situations disturbing the transport safety on the Danube river including the area were getting in to the Black sea.

What will be the results (what’s the contribution to the Programme)?

Programme outputs:

1 study, strategy, and action plan to improve safety of the navigation on the Danube and the Black Sea supported;

470 km total length of new and improved inland waterway;

Programme results: 100 % of the RO-BG CBC Danube length and Black Sea where safety of the navigation has been improved. 

Project status

The project is finalized.

LB purchased two multipurpose non-self-propelled crafts in Bulgaria in July 2022 and one is located in Lom and the other one is located in Ruse, where were established two “Emergency response centers in Bulgaria". On 7th October 2022 was organized the final press conference on behalf of LB in Ruse, Bulgaria.

B2 purchased two multipurpose and multifunctional crafts in May 2021 and one is located in Bechet and the other one is located in Giurgiu. Also, finalized the establishment of “Emergency response center in Romania” in Constanta, Romania. On 12th of October 2022 was organized the final press conference on behalf of B2 in Constanta, Romania.

Within the project, the web platform: https://danubesafety.net/ was developed. On the website are provided details related to the tasks of the beneficiaries and information regarding the improvement of the safety services of naval transport.

The Action Plan for Joint Emergency and Rescue Operations between the "Maritime Administration" Executive Agency and the Romanian Naval Authority in the Bulgarian-Romanian area of the Danube was developed. The joint action plan addresses the specific incidents occurring in the common Bulgarian-Romanian section of the Danube river, which requires joint actions with the use of delivered equipment under the project to LB and B2.
